Comment answering blog post

Don't we all love comments? Thank you all of you commenters! In the comments there are some questions, so here are some answers

Shannon who, btw is involved in a 365 day freeform challenge, asks whether the knots in a Kaffe Fassett magic ball drive me crazy. They don't. I weave in the ends at the back of the knitting as I go (using both the continental and the non-continental way of knitting). Sometimes you have to pull a bit or loosen a bit extra to get the knot to sit at the back, but otherwise it is not a problem. The weaving in at the back will keep the knot mainly in its place. Also: do not cut the thread to close to the weaving-in, leave a centimeter or so, otherwise the end of the yarn may work its way out of the weaving and even into the front of the knitting work. But let's face it: It is more work than knitting without knots!

Jonathan, the woodstock hooker, who brightened up my whole monday with his comment (thanx!) asks whether both brain halves are involved in knitting. Probably not. Most knitters knit to give their brain halves a break. Apart from that, I have promised him coloured pictures of the 'inspired by the puzzle' hat. It will be a while because in drooly Denmark, it's dark when I leave the house and it is dark again when I get home, so I have to figure out when I can take a nice picture in daylight. (Btw I am so ready for snow!).

And then, Marsha asks for links to the patterns of my purple and cream hats (see the finished items 2006 post). The cream hat comes straight out of 'Knitting in the nordic tradition' (I am so glad I found an affordable copy last year!). The purple one is made in the same way, with a 'lace cast on' which gives the advantage of getting just the right amount of stitches for your specific head circumphereance, see the book. I made YO, k 2 tog holes every 8th stitch and for the crown followed the instructions of the book. Because of copyright I cannot post more specific instructions, but there is a pattern for a hat that looks similar, only worked in the opposite direction (from the top down) on Marnie McLeans page here. My hat is a little bit shorter (it doesn't get over the ears).

thank you! You know, I once bought many many skeins of beautiful yarns and spent hours making them into magic balls for a particular project. I never did the project, nor did I even knit with the balls. I ended up giving them away.
funny. actually painful to think of, a tiny bit.
