wristwarmers and pouch

Finally, cutting the crap with just posting chain letters and ideas for knitting - here's a post on my different-looking blog (I was tired of the pink template) on results of my crafting! Today, unfortunately just in English, since otherwise there would be no post at all.

So first: I made the first project from the 'One skein' book by Leigh Radford. Wristwarmers and actually my dear cousin had a say in this project when she suggested way back that I made wristwarmers from the sock yarn I had coloured with egg dye. So thank you Froukje for this suggestion. So it's a bit of a family thing also because it's going to be a gift for a family member, i.e. my mum who I hope will not read this but if she does, there it is: one (or actually two) of your christmas presents (here I could insert a very long story on christmas in Denmark and christmas in Holland and how Santa Claus actually is SInterklaas and that apart from the Dutch, some of the Belgians and a very small portion of the German population, most people world wide celebrate this man on the wrong date - but that's kind of off the point here).

The other and actually earlier project is from a book I recently bought and which is recommended for sewers and quilters. It's Komiko Sudo's Omiyage - very wonderful, very inovative and it has this japanese touch a lot of crafting people are crazy about. One thing though that irritates me is that all of the projects are made from antique silk kimono's, which definitely make the projects look fantastic. I have two problems with this. First of all how in the world (pun intended) would I get hold of antique silk kimono's in the middle of Denmark without paying large amounts for the antique silk kimono (which now btw are a coveted item for the worlds' crafters in the light of the japanese wave in crafting) and on top of that the shipping of it from Japan or whereever it is located to boring little Denmark? Second, let's face it, real creativity is making something beautiful out of crap. Antique kimonos are not crap and almost anything made of them would look kind of good. And I am a thrifty crafter. For me, the sport and the satisfaction lies in buying an old sheet and turning it into something that other people would want. So I let you be the judge of whether I succeeded on this. Without further ado here it is, the candy pouch from the book but this time made of old sheets (one sheet, one duvet cover and two pillow cases to be precise). The only new thing about it is the sewing thread and the yellow ribbon.

The green fabric which you may recall also starred in the skirt I made for my eldest daughter some months ago, lent itself beautifully to make a special button that went on the bottom of the pouch.

the bag is great. Wonderful modern adaptation of the original intent of the craft.

Where i lived in Germany St Nikolas came on Dec. 6, and the Christkind came on Christmas Eve. Hope your mom is not reading your blog because surprises are best!

Wij hebben zoals je weet, sinterklaas mét pepernoten. Zijn nu al te koop, dus Esben (deense logé) meteen laten proeven, and he likes them!

Prachtige tas!
